P52 Week 23 – Front light – Kitsap Lifestyle Photographer

The next few weeks of my 52 week project are dedicated to directional light.  This week was about front light.  Front light refers to when your subject is lit from the front, or from behind camera position.  It’s some pretty flattering light and quite easy to shoot, but lacks depth since shadows are all falling behind the subject, and therefore aren’t seen in the image.

I happened to catch our kiddo deeply engrossed in a movie (probably “Brave” or “Frozen”) while drinking some juice one afternoon in some textbook front light.  The blinds off to the side (camera right), which are wooden plantation style blinds that let very little light in,  were pulled closed.  My little guy is lit by the open window and the sliding door behind where I was shooting.
