Hello, Welcome, and Thank you!

I can’t really tell you when I was first drawn to photography.

As a kid I enjoyed snapping photos with whatever little disposable camera I had at the moment.  Always a sucker for some good, old-fashioned delayed gratification, I just loved opening the little package I would get back from the print lab a few days after dropping off film.

In high school I was rarely without my little Kodak point and shoot, diligently trying to document what life was like for me.

Finally, in college I took an honest to goodness film photography class.  I learned the science behind creating a good exposure both in a negative and in print.  I came to understand the artistic sensibility that is required to “see” a good composition out of nowhere or to create one with just the things in front of you.  For someone like me, who was raised in an artistic family but naturally methodical and meticulous, photography provided the perfect marriage of art and technicalities.  I simply couldn’t shake it afterwards.

Post college, I kept kicking around this idea of really using my skills in a professional capacity but there was always several very good reasons not to.  Now, those reasons are gone.  Finally, the timing is right.

This website/blog marks the first little step in a long and hopefully successful journey for me.  And as with so many beginnings in my life, I would like to begin with gratitude.  A huge and very sincere ‘Thank You’ to everyone who has liked my Facebook page, stopped by this blog to check it out, and supported me over the years in ways both big and small.

Now, here is a short run-down on some things you can expect upcoming in this blog:

Photography Tutorials – Not just tips and tricks, but actually learning those settings on your camera.

Some Personal Stories – We are moving cross country (again) with 2 cats, a dog, and a baby.  There are bound to be misadventures that deserve a little web space.

Film – I love it.  I still shoot it.  And this blog gives me the perfect excuse to experiment with film and my growing collection of toy and vintage cameras.

Lots of Pretty Pictures – That really should go without saying.
