I just finished up the first week of a four week online course on natural light indoors and can I say that I am more than a little enthused about this class?
Some photographers are strobists. I am a natural light sort of girl.
I love the look of natural light and I truly enjoy the problem solving sort of process that comes with shooting in natural light. I can understand how other photographers enjoy the absolute control one has when developing a set lighting scheme. Me? I would much rather evaluate what is already there and figure out the best way to use it. Granted, there is always a time and place where a flash is necessary. I just choose to make those moments fewer and further between. And natural light is a challenge, particularly indoors where you may small windows, no windows, or windows in full view of the sun. But for every challenge you have the opportunity for beautiful, creative backlight, or the use of shapes created by shafts of light as they fall through blinds or the cracks between the curtains. With some knowledge and a good piece of gear just about anything is possible.
Here are a few highlights from my first week.
