P52 Week 7 – Wide Angle Lens – Personal Photography

For week 7 my assignment again came from “The Visual Toolbox” and this week we were to work with a wide angle lens.  Now if you have been reading the tutorials posted on this blog you may have caught this one where I touched on wide angle vs. telephoto.

Basically, wide angle lenses are going to give you a wider field of view so you can include more of a scene in a single image.

The purpose of the exercise was for us to purposefully fill the frame with context as well as to understand how close we need to be to our subject for them to fill the frame.  And then, see how the lens itself, affects the image.

I shoot with my 35mm lens indoors a lot so I opted to shake things up and shoot at 18mm on my crop sensor camera (making the focal length the equivalent of 27mm – for those of you interested in keeping score) and snapping a few images outside my own home.

My son and I had to run a few errands this morning so it seemed like the perfect time to try out some wide angle shooting.
